What are permission sets?

A permission set is a collection of settings and permissions that give users access to various tools and functions within an application. These settings and permissions are also found in profiles but extend users' level of access without making any changes to their profiles. While users can have only one profile, they can have multiple permission sets.

Permission sets allow you to group together desired permissions and add or remove them to individual users as opposed to having to change the users' profiles. You can also use permission sets to extend permissions to users across different profiles.

For instance, if you needed to set permissions for employees who conduct interviews, but the 'interviewer' title applies to users with different profiles and so on, you could create a new "interviewer' permission set containing the needed permissions and then assign those users to the permission set, or remove them as necessary, all without having to change user profiles.

It is recommended that you add permission sets accordingly to each user of Rollup Helper. That way, when the pages are changed over time, there's no need to manually update profiles. You can find instructions for doing this in the Installation Guide under the "Extra Info" section.

There are permission settings for:
  • Assigned apps
  • Object settings
  • App permissions
  • Apex class access
  • Visualforce page access
  • System permissions
  • Service providers (only if you've enabled Salsesforce as an identity provider)
